The rules of Shabbot and Yom Kipper prohibit the use of the computer. Yet I can tell from all the I am starving questions there are a bunch of people fasting, but observing very little else. Why? Of all our holidays this one *****. Yet it is the most observed. Purim, sukkot simkot torah are all fun holidays but almost nobody pays any attention to them (compared to YK)

I think the semi-observant Catholics have it right they skip ash wed, and good friday (depressing holidays like YK) but celibrate the fun ones — easter and xmas. Why do most Jews do the opposite?
