Gifts for Jewish business partner for the holidays?
wigginsray asked:
I have a very good client who is Jewish, I’d like to get him a small thank you gift to coincide with the holidays. First, is this appropriate. Second, is it strange/insulting for a Christian to wish him a happy Hanukkah. (I have full respect and admiration for Jews)

Say Happy Holidays, and give him a gift you might give another client–Auto accessories, gift cards, wine, etc.

Sure, it’s a very kind gesture.
It’s fortunate that both Christians and Jews have gift-giving holidays around the same time of year.
Christians can appreciate that:
If it weren’t for the events of Hannukah, Israel would have been destroyed, there would have been no Jesus, and therefore no Christianity.

If you know he is Jewish, give him a Chanukah card and a nice bottle of wine (kosher, if you know he keeps kosher). Any typical business gift is appropriate. You can certainly wish him a Happy Chanukah.
I read about so much confusion about Chanukah on here. It’s not a big deal….really! I give my Christian friends and clients Christmas cards and wish them a Merry Christmas. They give me Chanukah cards gifts and wish me a Happy Chanukah. Sometimes people accidentally give me Christmas gifts/cards…I don’t get upset because it isn’t intentional and they mean well. But if you know a person is Jewish, it’s nice to be mindful of their holiday and wish them a happy one.
When in doubt, stick with normal client gifts and wish them Happy Holidays.
