We live in MI, but most relatives are in CA, so people who would come to the Bar Mitzvah would have to travel on a plane anyway. Our plan is to have the Bar Mitzvah in Curacao at the oldest synogogue in the western hemisphere. This will be very special for us and those attending. It costs about $800-900 for a roundtrip ticket there so many people would not be able to come. Will people be offended by our choice? Are we being exclusionary? We plan to ask for no gifts on the invitation so people don’t feel obligated to send one even though they are not planning on attending.
