i have a friend who is jewish, both of his parents are and hes had a barmitzvah and everything. today he was telling me that his family celebrates Hanukkah and christmas, and when i asked him why they celebrate christmas he was like i dont know. just because. they dont get a tree or anything but they still exchange gifts on that day. i know friends who celebrate both because they have 2 parents of different religions and obviously i know of jewish people who go to christmas parties with friends and stuff. i just find it almost offense that they celebrate a holiday based on something they dont actually believe in. any thoughts?

He isn’t really ******** in his faith (i.e. does not eat Kosher) and seeing as though the holidays are around the corner, I was wondering whether I should give him a Christmas gift (which is what I celebrate) or I should give him a Hannakuh gift (which I have no idea how that whole thing works, do I have to give him several gifts?) We would like to buy him a holiday gift but nobody including myself has the guts to ask him if he’s Jewish, Muslim or Christian. Now I know that if you’re from Isreal chances are you’re Jewish but I’ve never heard of Lebanon until I started working for him. We can’t very well give him a gift the week of Christmas if that’s not his holiday that I think would be an insult considering he’s very proud of his culture. Any idea?

B/F is Jewish and celebrates both holidays with us, puts tree in his house for us and have christmas gifts etc.This year we ALL took Xmas cruise. I am fighting resentful feelings and looking for negative issues.My inability to give same things to my son is very humiliating now especially during summer. I had opportunity for free lodgings in great mountain cabin, but his kids didn’t want to go. Sadly I could not go without shared gas cost etc.
I am seeking 2nd job which will help and B/F encourages me even tho it means no time for us. Am I blind?

When people ask I say I am both Christian and Jewish. Im not religiously Jewish, I have never prayed in Jewish. But when I was younger, my mom would take me to church and I do celebrate both Christian and Jewish Holidays (Just Easter, Hanukkah, and Christmas)
(Not much praying goes on, we just open presents – exchange gifts)

Is it possible to just practice one religion and stay that way?

And it is possible to have two different religions run through your blood, be mixed, right?

My boyfriend (who is absolutely great, a truly good person) is black and not Jewish, but has agreed to back me with celebrating the holidays, and has also told me that celebrating HIS holidays (Christmas, Easter) will be mainly about spending time with family, and giving gifts.

Should I still be worried?
